Poc Fada > Home
An Poc Fada is Monaghan's
premier venue for live music
and sporting action. Enjoy
live music every weekend
and watch all sporting action
on our six screens positioned
around the pub! The pub hosts
the classic, warm invitation
of an Irish pub, furthered
by a large open fireplace.
Our abundent use of natural,
solid wood and natural stone
tiles helps create an authentic
old world charm.
An Poc Fada or 'the poc',
as it is commonly known,
derives its name from a popular
hurling competition. This
is a contest based in mythology
where warriors tested eachother
by seeing who could 'poc'
(hit) the 'sliotar' (ball)
with a hurley the least amount
of times to cover a given
distance. This competition
is still held every year
on the Cooley Mountains,
Co. Louth.
The 'poc' remains a great
spot for an after-work get-together,
or a lively venue for those
wild weekend nights. One
of the pubs best features
is its fully equipped beer
garden. This large outdoor
area is sheltered and heated,
enabling you to relax outside
on those lazy summer evenings,
or keep warm and dry on those
cold winter nights.
Monaghan Busk Fest 2011
Monaghan Busk Fest will take place from the 23rd – 27th June 2011 across Monaghan town. This is a new festival that promises free, quality entertainment during current recessionary times. Coupled with a recent rise in fame of local musicians like Ryan Sheridan, we feel this is the time to establish Monaghan further on the Irish musical event map.
We are inviting musicians, both local and national, to join us in Monaghan. We will allocate spaces within the town that will be assigned on a scheduled basis, allowing equal opportunities for all to take part. The main busking part of the festival will take place between 12pm – 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday. At 8pm each night festival goers are invited to attend local music venue An Poc Fada, where bands will take to the stage and 'jammers' can get together in the large, headted beer garden.
Although in it's infancy, Monaghan Busk Fest will be well attended as it coincides with the Forge In Festival, already well established internationally and yields between 7,000 – 10,000 people from across the globe.
Throughout the weekend we will be taking the opportunity to collect on behalf of Central Remedial Clinic Dublin, and although it is not a requirement we would hope that the buskers would be willing to donate a small portion of their earnings to the charity.
Monaghan Busk Fest is an event which gives music lovers an opportunity to get back to the roots of music in a time when gigs are becoming increasingly scarce. A weekend of free entertainment for the listener and a free audience for the performer. All are welcome.
